Tongue Tied
words and music by Brett Allen
May
the love of Christ rise up in you May the love of Jesus pull
you through May the Holy Spirit flow through you Let
the Holy Spirit show Christ in you
I know you might
be all right But don't leave this world all tongue tied I know you might be all right But
don't leave this world all tongue tied
Don't hide your heart,
girl, don't run away He has you in His hand now, run to Him Don't
hide in silence, don't hide in fear Raise your voice now for
the King to hear
I know you might be all right Come
on and break your silence if you're tongue tied I know you might be all right Come
on and break your silence if you're tongue tied
Say it out loud Say
it out loud Say it out loud Say it out loud
I know you might be all right Come
on and break your silence if you're tongue tied I know you might be all right Come
on and break your silence if you're tongue tied
Say it out loud Say
it out loud Say it out loud Say it out loud | "Let me tell
you why you
are here. You're here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the
God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people
taste godliness? You've lost your usefulness and will end up in the
garbage. Here's
another way to put it: You're here to be light, bringing out the
God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going
public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you
light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do
you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a
hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your
lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with
God, this generous Father in heaven. (Mattew 5:13-16, The Message)
Jesus,
undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: "God
authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and
train
everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life,
marking them by
baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Then
instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you.
I'll be with
you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the
end of the
age." (Matthew 28:16-18, The Message)
I keep a quote I clipped from a very old issue of CCM
magazine article by John Fischer (along with its illustration
of a man holding a guitar and staring at the earth from a point far
removed from it) pinned to the bulletin board above my desk. I've had
it there for years, and even when I do a periodic cleaning of the
clutter, this clipping stays put.
It simply reads:
"Is
there anyone out there fool enough to think they can still
change the world with their guitar? I don't think anything's going to
happen until there is."
That quote almost haunts me as I
go through life. Can my pen or my
word processor or my guitar or my bass remotely hope change the
world?
I hope so.
That's the goal anyway.
Don't get tongue-tied. Break the
silence. Speak up. Tell the world. If I fail, so what? I tried. And
if nothing else happens, the effort at least changes me for the better.
Right?
